When reading the article "I BOUGHT A DUMB WATCH TO RESCUE ME FROM MY PHONE" by Brian Barrett, I found myself agreeing with him to a point. Granted I do not own a smart phone of any form. Budgetary issues had granted me a regular flip phone, which personally I don't mind since I only use my phone for texting and calls. However I do relate to Brian's over reliance of using my phone mainly to tell time rather than what a phone is meant to be used for. I even admit there are times that I would check my phone to see what the time was and put my phone back into my pocket only to immediately pull my phone out of my pocket to see what time it was again. I've pondered the idea of getting a watch, however the habit of using my phone to tell time is too hard to break. I feel good for Mr. Barrett for breaking his habit, since I agree that we as a species perhaps rely on our smart phones more than we should and especially because anyone who is able to break a habit that he or she considers bad for themselves at least deserves some praise.
